Having built his reputation at St Pauli, Klasnic joined Bremen, where he stayed for seven seasons. The Hamburg-born frontman helped them win the Bundesliga during the 2003/04 campaign, and the following season had his first taste of Champions League football, scoring five goals during the group stage.

The vastly experienced frontman has also found the net on 11 occasions for Croatia in 36 appearances, with two of those strikes coming against Poland and Turkey at the 2008 European Championships.

Klasnic became the sixth player to move to Bolton in the 2009 summer transfer window, following the recruitment of Sean Davis, Paul Robinson, Sam Ricketts, Zat Knight and Chung-Yong Lee.
